About Us

Girls Involvement in Rights and Leadership (GIRL) is a women’s rights grassroots non-governmental, non-religious, non-political and non-profit making organization based in Gauteng Province, in South Africa. GIRL implements human rights advancement projects focusing in the towns, slums, shanty towns and remote areas in Gauteng and Mpumalanga Provinces.

As a youth-led organization, GIRL aims to engage and empower girls and young women in their diversity including LBTQ adolescent girls, young sex workers and girls who use drugs.

Projects

Following are some of the most recent projects being implemented
by GIRL.

Health Options Project (HOPS)

With HOPS, GIRL provides direct health, social and legal support services to female and transgender Sex Workers, clients and partners. 

Empowered Needs for Greater Actions and Gender Equality (ENGAGE)

With ENGAGE, GIRL engages Sex Worker-led groups, police and NGOs on human rights and health services to reduce violence against Sex Workers. 

Health and Rights Initiative (HeRI) 

GIRL is engaging Sex Worker Clubs to empower them as social entrepreneurs to scale up existing or develop new business initiatives.

Our Grant Program

GIRL is proud to extend its impact beyond South Africa by offering grants to smaller organizations operating in Malawi. We recognize the critical work being done by grassroots organizations in Malawi and are committed to supporting their efforts through financial assistance, capacity building, and knowledge sharing.

Who Can Apply

Small, registered organizations in Malawi working in areas aligned with our mission: women's rights, girls' empowerment, human rights, and community development.

What We Offer

Financial grants, mentorship programs, organizational development support, and access to our network of partners and stakeholders across the region.

We are dedicated to fostering sustainable change by investing in local organizations that understand their communities and drive impactful initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Registered organization in Malawi
  • Annual budget under $50,000
  • Focus on women, girls, or human rights
  • Demonstrated community impact

How to Apply

Interested organizations are invited to submit a brief proposal outlining their mission, current projects, and how the grant would support their work. Our review committee evaluates applications on a rolling basis.
